Skate #4

Ian is the mother figure for Sam. Their mom is a terrible role model. He tells Sam to never let anyone push him around and i think this is foreshadowing for later in the book. Sam gets in a lot of fights but he never fights back because his counselor tells him not to. Due to his mom partying with a drug dealer, he had to sleep in the shed which didnt have any power. He woke up late so he was tardy to school so they suspected a problem at home. They don't think he can pass the WAEE test to pass high school so they are considering sending him the Kerner, the reject school.

Skate: third times a charm?

Ian and Sammy have never seen their dad. but sammy never gives up hope. He built a model for school that included him along with the rest of the family. Ian is forced to wash his clothes in the sink because he cant afford the cleaners. The two head out to skate and they get in trouble by a security guard who tackles sam for not getting off the property. When they get home their mom gives them a hard time and her boyfriend treats them like dogs. They eat a can of vegetable soup for dinner while their mom and her boyfriend smoke. Their life looks pretty bad right now but there is no major action happening yet. i will give this book a 4/10 at the moment

Skate: part deux (#2)

Ian has a best friend, who is also a skater, named Bernie. They are distinct personalities at Morrison and like to stand out. Bernie's dad is a homosexual and yet he calls people dykes. I find that quite ironic. This led him to be persecuted by a lot of the jocks at the high school. Ian has a little brother that he has to look after because he is slow mentally. Ian helps him study even though he has trouble succeeding. Their mom is rarely home because of work, and their house looks like a dump. Their lives look pretty concerning at the moment and i want to know what will happen next.

Skate by Michael Harmon

Ian is a outkast at Morrison High School. He doesnt make decisions for anyone except him. He detests the "title" people have in high school like "track star" or "football player". That is why he doesnt play sports. He's actually quite a fast runner, but his lack of respect for authority leads him to not join the track team. The plot isnt all that interesting right now, but its only the first chapter, so just like any other book its not that exciting yet. It is too early to give this book a rating. i will just hope that the story gets more interesting as the book progresses.

All Of My Sons

I think All Of My Sons had a very predictable and un-eventful plot. The ending was similar to The 400 Blows because it left the viewer, in this case the reader, with nothing significant to reflect on. I didn't get how chris came to seeing his dad as a role model one second, and then a second later he detested his dad. Its not realistic AT ALL. I also dont like the fact that no one seems to try to forgive someone in this book, they always hold their grudges. I beleive that Chris is a very selfish man. He wants ann all for himself just because shes single now that larry "died". Obviously it wouldnt have worked out very well since joe ended up shooting himself over the intertwined issue of their marraige and the war. Joe seemed like a weak character to me. He shot himself not only because he didnt want to go to jail, but because chris didnt see him as a father anymore. They could've worked things out.
