Skate: numero 10
ian and sammy are now on the run with a stolen vehicle. they seem to be getting in more and more trouble as the story progresses. After feasting upon the chicken they caught, ian and sam have a 'brother moment' where the love is shown between the two. Ian curls up next to sam and they fall asleep. however when he wakes up, he finds sam to have a fever and a homeless man, who ian doesnt know is trustworthy, willing to help. He decides to take the pill from the homeless man and give it to sam. When he returns to go get water he finds the man on top of sam and he freaks out and almost stabs him. The man leaves and ian doesnt know what to do next. Ian loves his brother a lot and it shows he would sacrifice his life for sam.

the boys are still on their way to Walla Walla when they get caught in a fierce rain storm. They run into a sheriff on the road who questions them. Sam sneaks up and hits the officer in the leg and he falls. Ian believes they are too far in to get help from the cops. They leave the cop on the pavement and they are on their way. Then they reach a barn and find a pickup truck that luckily starts. Ian and sam are relieved to heat up and then they are on their way. A lot of frustration goes on in this chapter with sam. He really misses his mom and ian feels guilty about it.

s8
Since their home is being monitored by the police, Ian and Sam have to camp outside in the cold, and they almost freeze. They are hungry and thirsty so the look for work and they find it. After working in the barn they get supplies and are on their way again. Ian becomes lost and his map isnt detailed enough. Sam questions whether they should call ms veer for a ride. This book is finally getting exciting and i wonder what is going to happen next, even though it seems a little cheesy. So far i would give this book a 6.5/10
skate finally gets a plot (#7)
The two brothers stop at a bar that their mom is usually at and get the address of her boyfriends house. Ian forces his way past the door and finds his mother inside. But malachi (boyfriend) shuts the door on them and Ian realizes she doesnt want to come out. Sam is frustrated with Ian that he can't fix the problem, but its beyond fixing now. They now turn directions and look for their long-lost dad. It's going to be a longer journey this time because he lives across the state.

ian and sammy have to hide or else sam will be taken away. they have no parents there for help; their mom is nowhere to be seen. The 2 brothers and bernie reach the mcdermott house and find a cop out front. Bernie acts as the bait so ian and sam can sneak inside. After exiting the house, ms. veer arrives and tries to tell ian to stop what he's doing, but he ignores her and they head out on their jouney to search for mom.
skate 5
ms. veer, one of the schools officials, comes to ians house after he returns from the dumpster with food. ian doesnt like to have people concerned about him so he kicks her out of the house. ian does not respect authority and thats why he is not doing well in school because he ignores the teachers. I think he developed this because his mother is never home and he has to be the boss around the house. The principal kicks him out of the school and that leads him to end up getting into a fight with the gym teacher. After he decked the teacher, he runs away and goes to get sammy before the school did.

Skate #4
Ian is the mother figure for Sam. Their mom is a terrible role model. He tells Sam to never let anyone push him around and i think this is foreshadowing for later in the book. Sam gets in a lot of fights but he never fights back because his counselor tells him not to. Due to his mom partying with a drug dealer, he had to sleep in the shed which didnt have any power. He woke up late so he was tardy to school so they suspected a problem at home. They don't think he can pass the WAEE test to pass high school so they are considering sending him the Kerner, the reject school.
Skate: third times a charm?
Ian and Sammy have never seen their dad. but sammy never gives up hope. He built a model for school that included him along with the rest of the family. Ian is forced to wash his clothes in the sink because he cant afford the cleaners. The two head out to skate and they get in trouble by a security guard who tackles sam for not getting off the property. When they get home their mom gives them a hard time and her boyfriend treats them like dogs. They eat a can of vegetable soup for dinner while their mom and her boyfriend smoke. Their life looks pretty bad right now but there is no major action happening yet. i will give this book a 4/10 at the moment
Skate: part deux (#2)
Ian has a best friend, who is also a skater, named Bernie. They are distinct personalities at Morrison and like to stand out. Bernie's dad is a homosexual and yet he calls people dykes. I find that quite ironic. This led him to be persecuted by a lot of the jocks at the high school. Ian has a little brother that he has to look after because he is slow mentally. Ian helps him study even though he has trouble succeeding. Their mom is rarely home because of work, and their house looks like a dump. Their lives look pretty concerning at the moment and i want to know what will happen next.
Skate by Michael Harmon
Ian is a outkast at Morrison High School. He doesnt make decisions for anyone except him. He detests the "title" people have in high school like "track star" or "football player". That is why he doesnt play sports. He's actually quite a fast runner, but his lack of respect for authority leads him to not join the track team. The plot isnt all that interesting right now, but its only the first chapter, so just like any other book its not that exciting yet. It is too early to give this book a rating. i will just hope that the story gets more interesting as the book progresses.

All Of My Sons
I think All Of My Sons had a very predictable and un-eventful plot. The ending was similar to The 400 Blows because it left the viewer, in this case the reader, with nothing significant to reflect on. I didn't get how chris came to seeing his dad as a role model one second, and then a second later he detested his dad. Its not realistic AT ALL. I also dont like the fact that no one seems to try to forgive someone in this book, they always hold their grudges. I beleive that Chris is a very selfish man. He wants ann all for himself just because shes single now that larry "died". Obviously it wouldnt have worked out very well since joe ended up shooting himself over the intertwined issue of their marraige and the war. Joe seemed like a weak character to me. He shot himself not only because he didnt want to go to jail, but because chris didnt see him as a father anymore. They could've worked things out.

Scar Tissue #9
Californication became the new hit song coming into the millenium. Anthony found a new girlfriend named claire but he ends up ruining the relationship when they both decide to go on a drug binge together. He realized he made a mistake and becomes sober again. The RHCP are now working on another cd called By The Way. Anthony finally gets spiritually awakened and stays sober from now on. I finally understand the meaning of the title, its not only a Red Hot Chili Peppers song, but it resembles anthony's 'scar tissue' from drug use over the years when he finally quits. no doubt this book is a 10/10. i would recommend it to everyone
Scar Tissue #8
John leaves the band because he thinks it killing him right after a concert. But the Chili Peppers found a replacement for him soon after, even though it wasn't feeling like the original band. By January 1994 Anthony had been 5.5 years sober which is an amazing accomplishment for someone who used to be a huge addict. But after a trip to the dentist being on novacaine, he felt like he was high again and didnt want it to stop. He went on a huge drug spree using crack, heroin, and percodan. This effected his will to the band to create meaningful lyrics. His girlfriend catches him and almost runs off. Hillel dies of a drug overdose. Anthony's life begins to have a downsard spiral. This book is getting more intense now and i would give it an 8.5/10
Scar Tissue #7
The Chilli Peppers are on a roll and get out of their sony contract onto warner's. Anthony's wrote a poem that later turned into one of their most famous songs, Under The Bridge. This was the first song of that typeever played by RHCP cause it was slow and soft. Blood Sugar Sex Magik was released september 24, 1991. They began touring with major bands like the smashing pumpkins and pearl jam. They even played with kurt cobain and Nirvana for a few shows! Anthony is maturing more and taking the band more seriously and his bandmates accept him more.

Scar Tissue #6
Anthony isnt bringing anything to the table for practices because of his hardships. He doesn't have the drive for new ideas and lyrics. The band fired him and he finally gets a reality check. The band wins a award from L.A. Weekly and they don't even mention Anthony. He goes into a huge drug binge in retaliation and it doesn't end good when he gets caught by the cops. But they let him go and tell him to get on the plane to go see his mom. Anthony goes to a clinic to help him quit drugs for the first time in his life, which is a huge step. He stays sober and the band is happy to let him join again and they start by making a new album called "the Uplift Mofo Party Plan"

Scar Tissue #5
Anthony is having problems with his girlfriend jennifer. His drug use and sleeping with other girls with has made their relationship weak. Jennifer even smashed Anthony's window in his apartment in anger. Kim (one of anthony's good friends) almost died from a heroin overdose. There is not one chapter in this book that doesn't imply drugs are bad. meanwhile, EMI record company never got behind their album despite their tour. Cliff (drummer) was fired and Jack Irons was brought back. (the original drummer). RHCP still is trying to find the perfect setup for the band.

Scar Tissue #4
the RHCP's are having troubles finding the right band members to be able to work to their full potential. Anthony is late and missing practices because of his cocaine and heroin use. however, he makes a speech at a gig about the dangers of doing drugs, which shows he's self conscious but he's so addicted he can't stop. Hillel (the guitarist) was let go but then they fired his replacement cause it wasn't working out, and they let him join again. George Clinton also rocked out on stage with them at one of their concerts. The Chili Peppers are now becoming more and more famous with their release of the album "Freaky Styley"

Scar Tissue #3
The Red Hot Chili Peppers hit a good start but they couldn't make it happen right away. They couldnt get many shows to play at with a tape. Nobody wanted to listen their music. They have a small crowd but it isnt catching on still. Flea (the bassist) and Anthony get deeper into drugs, especially heroin and speed, and this affected the band life. They weren't as motivated as they could be to make the band happen. They are too focused on having a good time and partying. This book is starting to slow down, so i will give this book a 7/10

Black Boy #2
I thought that black boy was a very moving book even though at times it wasnt all that interesting. Richard went through the experience himself and that makes the book credible and not exaggerated. The ending was abrupt but it summed it up well before the 2nd part (which we didnt read). It left some room to think
Scar Tissue #2
Anthony has just started his beggining of his career. His drug usage in his teens has evolved into a bigger problem. He goes on frequent drug binges and starts to shoot heroin. Anthony also drops out of UCLA because of it. Just this shows how bad drugs can affect your life. The Red Hot Chili Peppers just had their first show ever and they were a hit and asked to come back. I think this is just a small section off a lot of sucesses that they will have in the next coming years. I love this book so im giving it a 9.5/10

blog post #2 - outside reading
Scar Tissue is a very moving book. It tells firsthand what drugs can do to people. Anthony Kiedis was a drug addict practically his whole life. His dad used to deal out of his house in California and so kiedis got in on it. But his drug usage keeps on moving to the next level. He keeps on getting sucked in. I think this is a very good representation of drugs. At first its no big deal, but once you start, you cant stop. so far i would give this book a 8 out of 10.
blog post #1 - black boy
Black Boy is a very interesting book. Its shows vivid images of Richard Wrights childhood. Its a really depressing book because all of his memories are bad. He is beaten multiple times. Why doesn't he write about anything good that happened to him? or would that not be interesting? i don't see how it wouldn't be. The books plot line is very repetitive. Richard gets into trouble, and gets beaten. thats pretty much how i can sum up the book. Plus this story is very against whites, but i guess thats life.
